I bought these bags recently in order to transport specimens from my home to the local labs for testing. Anything coming into contact with body fluids must be transported in a special container such as this bag. Usually, a health care provider handles specimen collections in their offices, then takes to the lab, or they put in an outside metal container to be picked up by the lab. I have found, over the past 20 years, most providers do not even collect specimens anymore & don't carry urine cups or culture equipment to get specimens from patients. I have been "nursing" several sounds on my leg since June, & the 2 different providers who took cultures months apart, contaminated my leg AND the specimen by touching the un-ulcerated skin AFTER swabbing the wound. This is NOT ACCEPTABLE & my leg got infected on other 3 sides of leg as a result of 1st idiots screw up! I am a retired RN & have gotten many cultures from patients over 25 years, so I decided to do it all myself. My primary doc has agreed to give me a lab request & I'll transport the specimen carefully in one of these above bags to the lab after putting that bag in a outer bag to get from home to cab to lab. I'm so glad these bags are readily available for use in the home. They have a zip lock type closure to prevent spillage & are nice & thick. Thank you so much!
